Buck Island is popular for its underwater snorkeling trail that features plaques that describe the sea life found in the area. The reef is made up of giant Elkhorn coral that forms a fortress-like reef wall. The pier has a tourism desk, bathrooms and from there downtown, Frederiksted is just a walking distance. You can take a taxi from Budget Frederiksted to Christiansted to explore the capital city and the eastern side of the island.

The pier is a popular destination for diving enthusiasts, snorkeling, sport fishermen, and other ocean sport competitions. Abramson Pier is a popular scuba diving and snorkeling destination, especially for first-timers. Here are also held sport fishing-, swimming- and paddleboarding (Coconut Cup) competitions. A large public beach (with many restaurants and bars) is located directly off the pier. On your cruise to St. Croix, enjoy one of the restaurants or bars along Rainbow Beach north of Frederiksted for a lively afternoon. Swimming and snorkeling are two big activities here, and families come to Rainbow Beach on Sundays for family fun and watersports.

On the western side of the island is the rainforest and mountainous region where you can enjoy horseback riding, trail walking, or enjoy the beaches and surfing. Unlike other USVI islands, cruise ships don’t dock in the capital of St. Croix. Instead, ships dock at the Ann E. Abramson Pier in Frederiksted on the western side of the island.

There are plenty of amenities including a beach restaurant and plenty of parking. Just carry your own umbrella for shade or rent from the restaurants at the beach. Salt River Bay Park has the only remaining prehistoric ball court in the USVI and an important archaeological site. There is plenty to see in the fertile waters teeming with marine life. One point of interest though, that you would want to explore immediately you leave the pier is Fort Frederiksted located just a short distance to the left of the cruise ship dock.

Get your dose of adrenaline on an unforgettable off-roading tour of the island. On the north shore of St. Croix is the town of Christiansted, where Danish-colonial sites and romantic waterfront restaurants are just a normal part of daily life. Christiansted is only a half hour drive or taxi ride from Frederiksted. Take a tour of Fort Christiansvaern, an 18th century historic landmark used to ward off pirate attacks on the town. Then, go shopping along Gallows Bay, a commercial district with plenty of small boutiques.
Salt River Bay is located about 5miles from Christiansted on the northern side of the island. It’s the only place in the US territory where Columbus actually set foot on. It hosts a vibrant habitat of sea horses and night critters which emerge in the evening and makes for a special diving spot in the evening. Too bad jumping off the pier is restricted when there are ships in port. Explore the Victorian Era architecture while you pop in and out of shops and quaint restaurants. There is plenty to eat, drink and shop in and around the town area.
